State Farm Insurance

Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. Okay, so maybe their catchy jingle doesn’t transfer well onto paper, but State Farm still swears by it. Their slogan is an attempt to remind us of older, simpler times, when many people had open door policies with their neighbors. Compare that to the double deadbolt, blinds closed policy of many of todays neighborhoods, and you might think that their slogan is a little out of date. It might be, considering that Barry Manilow wrote the jingle for them back in ’71, I would say that it is dated, but still portrays State Farm’s policy of customer service fairly well.

State Farm is a group of insurance and financial services companies based out of the United States and Canada. Founded in 1922 it is one of the oldest American based insurance companies still in business today.  Along with being one of the oldest companies in the states, they are also one of the most successful, coming in at number 34 in the Fortune 500. Those of you unfamiliar with the Fortune 500, this is a list which compiles American companies from 1 to 500 based solely by revenue stream. State Farm is mostly known for its insurance related services, but they also offer several other services including banking and investment planning.

As of any company that’s not run by “mom and pop”, State Farm can be found online at StateFarm.com. Their website is as simple as you can get in terms of finding information, and it is a great welcome to their potential customers to know that buffalo attacks are indeed covered by their policies. This must be the main message of the site seeing as it is prominently displayed on the top of the page, and of course is a witty play from one of State Farms humorous commercials. Their message being that with State Farm you are covered from virtually anything, yes even a buffalo. Getting a free quote, contacting a local agent to report a claim, or managing your current claim with them are all easily done with large displays on the front page of the site. Just below these displays you will find menus for all of the services they offer, which range from Auto, Boat, and Home insurance, to Life insurance and banking.

There is a bit of redundancy on the front page of the site, this is probably due to the webmaster not having enough content to fill the page. As mentioned above there is a display for getting an insurance quote in the middle of the screen, yet at the bottom of the page under the “what we offer” section, there is another “get a free quote” section. This is dead space that could be used for something that is needed on the site, like an instant message box for quick 24 hour customer service, or a section for leaving comments about the great or poor service from customers. Customer testimonials are a big reason that potential clients choose one company over another.

Other than these few small gripes, I wouldn’t say that StateFarm.com is a bad site, they get their message across. Getting a quote is simple and free, and they do offer quality insurance, just don’t expect the lowest prices to go along with the best service. StateFarm.com is definitely worth a visit, especially if you need to report a claim on that recent rhino attack on your Audi, just make sure you tell them it was a buffalo, I know that those are covered.
